Visual literacy is a skill that it necessary for student success in and outside of school. It is a skill that crosses all subject lines. This workshop is designed to help teachers get a basic understanding of visual literacy and its importance. It is also created to introduce instructors to basic terminology of visual elements and principals. The goals and objectives will be obtained by having teachers create their own infographic, analyze other infographics and collaboratively create a lesson plan incorporating the creation of a Piktochart by their students. This workshop will address the following curricular concepts visual elements and principles, visual literacy, critical thinking and analysis. Standards Several International Society for Technology Education Standards are addressed in this workshop. The first is Visionary Leadership, I am providing instruction to other teachers on integrating technology into their curriculum. Next is Teaching and Learning, which is met by coaching others how to create infographics to use across the curriculum. Another is Professional Development and Program Evaluation, which is demonstrated by creating the workshop. (ISTE, 2011) Elements of the tool or resource Piktocharts will be used. This tool will allow teachers to apply their own knowledge of visual media elements and principles. The use of infographics, like Piktocharts, requires the creator to focus on the important ideas of a concept and be able to relay them in a concise manner. |
